With this prestigious event now getting closer, more and more companies in the country are finalising their programmes of activities aimed at making the staff, their families and the public healthier, more active and happier through sport.
Among the activities already unveiled figure several important companies: Qatar Airways will be organising a range of events, including tennis, running, volleyball and football, for staff families and kids at the Al Jazeera Academy. The Ahmed Hassan Bilal Group will take to the crease with a cricket programme at the West Bay Cricket Ground, pitching the company’s departments against each other in search of the ultimate winner.
Several branches of the Qatar Government will be represented too at the National Sport Day, a commitment to sport that reflects the ambitions of the Qatar National Vision 2030. An extremely rich and varied programme of activities will be staged in Al Refaa street.
This venue will see several Ministries, including the Ministries of Justice, Municipalities, Energy & Industry, Interior and Foreign Affairs and the Public Works Authority “Ashghal”, organise sport events that are sure to attract a passionate and energetic crowd.
Al Refaa street will also host the activities of the Supreme Council of Health, while the Family Consulting Center will double up, with a programme of Sport Games set up in Al Refaa and a second set of activities on the Doha Corniche, a venue that will also see the Supreme Council of Information and Communication in action.
A central part of the National Sport Day is to inspire the future generations to take up a healthy lifestyle, and the Higher Supreme Education Council will aim for this with a programme targeting several schools to be staged at the Aspire Zone.
The invitation for more organisations to join the National Sport Day activities is still open. Interested public entities and private companies still have time to register their activities for the day of February 12 by visiting the NSD website on www.sportday.qa
Registrations are open for the Al Refaa Street spaces, where companies can be allocated a booth to stage their activities, and for any other venue where the companies might want to organise their programme.
To register, companies can access the appropriate form by clicking on the links on the right of the National Sport Day homepage.
The National Sport day is celebrated every second Tuesday of February and is an initiative adopted by HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent.
Across the country, ministries, government departments, public and private sector organisations and sports clubs will be organising sporting activities for all on February 12, 2013. The event aims to create awareness about sports and its health benefits.
