QR1.5bn sewage projects under way

WORK worth about QR1.5bn is being carried out in various sewage projects in the country, according to a report published in the latest issue of the Ashghal’s house magazine.
The projects are meant to protect the public health and environment as well as recycle sewage water for agricultural use.
In Al Khor a major project is being executed at a cost of QR82mn. Work on the project is expected to be completed in May 2008. It includes the design, construction and operation of a new sewage water treatment station at the location of the existing station.
The contractors will operate the station for one year from the time of commissioning and it will be carried out in two phases. Together, it would benefit about 36,000 residents, the report said.
The report said Asghal’s main five-year sewage project includes four projects for water treatment. Besides Al Khor station, there would be two more stations in Doha North and Doha South.
A major QR32mn drainage project is being carried out in the Abu Hamour   area.  Work for this project started in December 2004 and is expected to be completed in May next year. Work on a drainage system at Hamad Hospital will be completed in July, at a cost of QR46.5mn.
Another project, aimed at providing water connections, is being executed in the Al Muraikh area, at a cost of QR1.4mn. This will be completed at the end of this month. The work to link the residential lines with the main feeder line is also being executed at a faster pace.
The water treatment project in the Industrial Area, when operational, would receive 12,000 cu m of sewage water daily through tankers. The project was completed a week ago at a cost of QR88mn. It also includes a station to pump the treated water through irrigation lines.
A QR22.45mn sewage line to the Educational City and Gharafah area is under way.
