Evaluation for children with special needs

HOPE Qatar, a forum focusing on programmes for children with special needs, is holding an evaluation programme for such children at the Indian Cultural Centre from today to Wednesday.

Parvathy Viswanathan, an expert on special education, will lead the programme.

Ten children with mild to moderate disabilities including Down’s Syndrome, learning disability and attention deficit hyperactive syndrome have been registered for the programme.

Indian Ambassador Dr George Joseph will visit the camp today.

Indian ex-CEO arriving today

SUNIL Kumar Alagh, former president of the All India Management Association and former managing director and CEO of Britannia Industries Ltd, arrives in Doha today to participate in the third Middle East Indian Management Convention being organised by the Qatar Indian Management Association (QIMA).

Alagh will deliver the keynote address of the convention on the theme ‘Best of the Best - Spirit of the Challenger’.

The Qima convention begins at Hotel Intercontinental today at 6pm.

Varsities host investment banking talk

CARNEGIE Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) and Georgetown School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q) yesterday hosted a talk on investment banking by Bharanidharan Rajakumar of Lehman Brothers in New York.

Rajakumar offered CMUQ and SFS-Q students a look inside the world of investment banking and offered tips on how to negotiate the job market after graduation.

During his current visit to Doha he will also conduct leadership training workshops for Qatar Academy’s student council and sixth and seventh grade students.

7 join Manila tech institute

SEVEN senior high school students of Philippine International School-Qatar (PISQ) have gained admission to Mapua Institute of Technology, Manila, a reputable engineering school.

Aljun Baclagan, Kaye Michelle Del Rosario, Mark Angelo Grande, Ridzlowell Tarronas, Arjie Fritz Ulep, Omar Viesca, and Jan Edgar Basilio are to begin studying at the institute in 2006, PISQ said yesterday.

Quiz, art contests set

EXPATRIATE forum Sanskriti’s Najma unit is holding quiz, pencil drawing and water colouring competitions on December 30.

The quiz, based on facts about Kerala, is open to Keralites of all ages. The drawing and colouring competitions are restricted to children who will not be over 12 years old on January 1, 2006.

Details on the quiz can be had from Varghese (5300426) and Abdul Khader (5416117), and on the art contests from Ravi Maniyoor (5269083). The last date for entries is December 17.

Sylhet flight from Friday

BIMAN Bangladesh Airlines will launch a Doha-Sylhet weekly service on Friday, fulfilling a long-standing demand of the large number of Bangladeshis in Qatar who come from the Sylhet region, Biman’s country manager Mollah Abu Jafor said yesterday.

The flight will leave Doha at 11.45pm every Friday and arrive in Dhaka via Dubai at 9.30am on Saturday.

After a halt in Dhaka, the flight will reach Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 11.10am.

Several Bangladeshi expatriate forums have thanked Jafor for launching the new service. Dhanshiri-BNP is organising a programme to celebrate the event. – MAM
