Iran jails publisher of reformist newspaper
Iran sentenced the publisher of a banned reformist daily to 11 months in jail on charges of propaganda against the Islamic regime and inciting unrest, Isna news agency reported yesterday. Seda-ye Edalat (Voice of Justice) was shut down in July 2009, a few weeks after Iran’s disputed presidential election, over “insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic,” late Ayatollah Khomeini, reports said at the time. Tehran’s penal court sentenced the publisher, Mostafa Kazzazi, “to five months in jail for propaganda against the establishment and six months for defaming the Islamic Republic and encouraging people to act against security,” Isna said.
