Doha hosts Foundation Fieldbus meet

Multaqa 2009, a two-day annual conference of Foundation Fieldbus End-Users Council-Middle East was held in Doha recently.
Some 177 delegates from the oil and gas, petrochemical, fertilisers, chemicals and other operating companies from GCC countries, control system manufacturers, consultants and automation contractors participated in the meeting.
Richard Timoney, president, Fieldbus Foundation, USA inaugurated the conference.
Foundation Fieldbus is the world’s leading digital system technology introduced for automation in large petrochemical, oil and gas and other major industries.
“The evolution of this technology in the last few years has provided a fillip to cost effective design, optimised maintenance and improved plant performance in oil and gas related industries,” a spokesman said.
The Foundation Fieldbus End User Council – Middle East organises technical conference every year. Since its inception, the last four conferences were held in Bahrain and Qatar hosted, for the first time, the fifth annual conference in Doha this year.
A total of 14 presentations were made by the vendors from across the globe and end-users representatives from the GCC countries.
Instrumentation and control engineers and managers of 12 oil and gas and petrochemical companies such as Qatar Petroleum, RasGas, Qapco, Shell GTL, Oryx GTL, Qafac, QVC, QChem, and eight petrochemical companies from Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries, 15 automation vendors and 10 automation contractors participated as delegates in the conference.
Multaqa 2009 also displayed Foundation Fieldbus’s latest products and systems of various vendors to end user delegates.
