World No. 1 Roger Federer and World No. 2 Rafael Nadal have confirmed their participation in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open to be held in Doha from January 4-9 next year, but 2009 winner Andy Murray will not be part of the action.
The event is currently part of the ATP World Tour 250 series of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and is the first event of the year, giving players the opportunity to assess their form before the Australian Open, held two weeks later in Melbourne.World No.7 Russian Nikolay Davydenko, and World No.10 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France are among those who will battle for the trophy and a share of the $1,110,250 in prize money.
“Qatar ExxonMobil Open is a great opportunity we have every year to organise a tennis tournament of the highest standards which makes us very happy and proud. Having players of the caliber of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal playing in our courts during the next Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2010 it’s really an honour,” said Nasser Ghanim al-Kholaifi, President of the Qatar Tennis Federation. “Since 1993 we have staged the Qatar ExxonMobil Open and every year we try to make the event bigger and better,” he added.
