Jessica Kurten cantered in and wasted no time in reaching her second jump off in two days in the 1.45m jump-off class during the second day’s Global Champions Tour at the outdoor arena of the Qatar Equestrian Federation yesterday.
Six horses qualified for the jump off and the first to do so was Albert Zoer with Sam. Then Zoer was joined by the combination he beat into fourth during that class, Marcus Ehning and Sabrina. Sixth placed Daniel Deusser made the jump off again and Robert Whitaker (Draco) and Denis Lynch (Nabab’s Son) made it five.
Albert Zoer set a good standard with a time of 37.9 and he was looking good to improve on his previous result.
However, Jessica and her nine year old mare, who have won several good classes this year in addition to Wednesday’s victory, always looked like they would catch the Dutchman. An audacious turn to the last meant they finished a second faster. 36.91 earned the Irishwoman another 16,000 Euro. Daniel Deusser was third on Ornella.
“It’s my second time here and it has changed a lot in a positive way. Everything is made for the riders to feel the importance of this competition. The stadium is great and looks just perfect to organize such a big final. From the beginning, we feel we are in a Championship that will be hard but very exciting and it’s good for our motivation,” Irish rider Jessica Kuerten explained.
“I am very happy to have qualified as winning here last year was a great experience and I knew the organisation would be super.
“It has improved, as all the best shows do and as the Global Champions tour itself has done,” a jubilant Denis Lynch said.
