President of Georgia ends Qatar visit

President Mikhail Saakashvili of Georgia left Doha yesterday, wrapping up a two-day official visit to Qatar.  The Georgian president was seen off at Doha International Airport by HE the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Nasser bin Mohamed bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, who was also head of the accompanying mission of honour.

Qatari minister holds talks with Austrian leader

President of Austria Heinz Fischer yesterday received HE the Minister of State for International Co-operation and Acting Minister of Business and Trade Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah, currently paying an official visit to Austria.

HE Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah conveyed HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani’s greetings to the Austrian president.

The Austrian president reciprocated the Emir and the Heir Apparent’s greetings.

During the meeting, they reviewed scopes of economic co-operation between the two countries and means of bolstering them.

The meeting was attended by Austrian Economic Minister Reinhold Mitterlehner, Austrian Vice-Minister of Josef Mayer and members of the official delegation accompanying the minister of state for international co-operation and acting minister of business and trade. 

Farewell party for Algerian ambassador

HE the Assistant Foreign Minister Saif Muqaddam al-Buainain hosted at the InterContinental Hotel yesterday a farewell party in honour of Algerian Ambassador to Qatar Eissa Bakrar on the occasion of the expiry of his tour of duty in the country. The function was attended by heads of the diplomatic missions and offices accredited to Qatar and a number of heads of departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ties with Japan

HE the Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage Mubarak bin Nasser al-Khalifa yesterday met Ryoji Iwama, the Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Japanese embassy in Doha. They reviewed the cultural co-operation between the two countries and ways of enhancing it. 

Army chief meets envoy

HE the Chief of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah yesterday met the Turkish Ambassador to Qatar Mithat Rende on the occasion of the expiry of his tour of duty in the country.  Bilateral relations were reviewed during the meeting.

Qatar to attend ozone meeting

Qatar will  take  part in the 21st meeting of Parties to the Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting substances due to convene  in Port Ghalib Marsa Alam, Egypt, tomorrow and  Sunday. HE the Environment Minister Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Aaboud al-Midhadhi will head Qatar’s delegation to the meeting. The 43rd session of the executive office meeting due in November 9 and the 21st session of the Arab environment ministers’ council will be discussed during the meeting. The minister will attend the ceremony of launching the first edition of the Arab environment expectations report.
