Kalam opens new Kerala hospital today

The Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Kottakkal: super specialty hospital
Former president A P J Abdul Kalam will inaugurate a new hospital promoted by the Dubai-based Dr Moopen’s Group in Kerala’s Malappuram district today.
The 300-bed Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) Kottakkal is the second full-fledged hospital the group is opening in Kerala after the MIMS hospital in Kozhikode.
“This dream project is aimed at providing medical care of international standards to more people at affordable costs,” said Dr Azad Moopen, the group’s chairman. “This will become a specialty centre for keyhole surgery and emergency medicine.”
One of the first hospitals in India to get accredited by the National Accreditation Board of Hospitals and Healthcare (NABH), the MIMS Kozhikode has received several internationally recognised awards for excellence in healthcare services.
The new hospital offers services of general medicine, paediatrics, orthopaedics, ENT, general surgery, gynaecology, dental treatments, critical care and advanced physiotherapy. The super specialty departments include cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology and rheumatology.
“Situated on the national highway, the hospital has qualified, trained and dedicated doctors and paramedical staff,” Moopen said. “Our motto is to make available better treatment services with the latest technologies and equipment and shall strive to provide international standards at an affordable cost.”
He said laparoscopic surgery has a vital role in medical field as the most advanced and safe method and the MIMS Kottakkal will be an advanced centre of minimal invasive surgery.
Dr Abdullah Cherayakkat, former honorary assistant professor and consultant at the King Khalid Hospital in Riyadh, is the managing director of MIMS while Dr Nalakath Yoonus, the former head of the quality department at MIMS Kozhikode heads the new facility.
Health Minister P K Sreemathi will preside over the inaugural function to be attended by Muslim League president Panakkad Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal, Kerala MPs E T Mohamed Basheer, P V Abdul Wahab and M I Shanavas , state legialator M Ummer MLA and Dr P K Warrier, managing trustee of the Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal.
