Education needed to empower Indian Muslims, says Islahi leader

Khilji speaking at the QIIC meeting
Empowerment of Indian Muslims is possible only through the eradication of superstitions and better education, said Indian Islahi Movement leader Moulana Abdul Wahab Khilji.
Khilji, who is the president of the Indian Islahi Movement and executive member of the All India Muslim Personnel Law Board, was speaking at the inauguration of a Ramadan study camp, hosted by Qatar Indian Islahi Centre in Khalifa Town over the weekend.
He lauded the role played by Islahi in Kerala in the development of the Muslim community in the state.
Khilji said the Islahi movement in India has lined up a series of activities in other states for the development of community members, after funding the successes of activities in Kerala.
Indian Islahi Movement general secretary Hussain Madavoor urged Muslims to learn more from the teachings of Holy Qur’an and Prophet Muhammad.
The speaker said the main reason behind the global financial turmoil is the conservative and traditional financial practices followed all over and greed of people.
“It is a good sign that a number of nations have realised the importance of Islamic finance, which is based on co-operation and assistance,” he said.
Faisal Chakkarakkallu later spoke on ‘Ramadan: season of virtues’. QIIC vice president Abdul Ahad Madani presided over the meeting. Nallalam Abdul Latheef welcomed the gathering and Basheer Anwari proposed a vote of thanks.
