Cerebral palsy rehabilitation comes into focus

THE Qatar Society for Rehabilitation and Special Needs (QSRSN) in association with the Qatar Endowment Authority (QEA) began a five-day rehabilitation workshop on Sunday focusing people with cerebral palsy. The workshop, being held under the patronage of the QSRSN’s chairman of board of directors Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah al-Thani, is part of the society’s awareness, education and cultural programme for the year.
The workshop, which concludes on Thursday, addresses different issues ranging from medical rehabilitation for conditions with severe cerebral palsy, role of family in care of people with cerebral palsy, techniques for cerebral palsy, mechanisms of integration and the difficulties in integrating cerebral palsy conditions, communication rehabilitation for severe cerebral palsy and evolutionary assessment of cerebral palsy.
During the opening session, board member Abdulrahman Abduljaleel al-Abdulghani thanked HH the Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, and HH Sheikha Mozah Nasser al-Misnad for their continuous and constant support for the Qatari families having disabled children as well as other residents in the country.
While appreciating the efforts of the QSRSN members, Al-Abdulghani mentioned that the future plans and projects being planned by the society include: Arabic Gulf programme to support UN development organisations; studies and research project in the field of disability; improvement of QSRSN centres across the country; workshop projects within and outside the country; and continued publication of Al Hayat magazine, the only magazine publishing information related to disabled people in the country.
Speakers at the workshop are drawn from different institutions such as the Shafallah Centre for Children with Disabilities, Qatar Paralympics Committee, QSRSN and Rumailah Hospital. In attendance at the workshop were QEA’s manager of Expenditure and Donations department Mohamed Lahdan and QSRSN’s executive manager Amir al-Mulla.
