THE committee for conducting a study on the concept of community policing, which aims to foster a partnership between the police and community members, visited the Central Municipal Council. The committee, headed by Brig Rashid Shaheen al-Atheeque, was received by CMC chairman Nasser Abdullah al-Kaa’bi and some of the members. The hosts, who expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Interior’s efforts in maintaining security all over the country, also stressed on the role of citizens in supporting the security personnel in carrying out their duty. The discussion saw an exchange of ideas to augment co-operation between the police and community members in drafting the community policing strategy. Brig al-Atheeque said that the success of the police in carrying out the security and humanitarian missions depended basically on the public’s co-operation. “Community policing is intended to elicit information about crimes before they take place or about any issue that could cause a backlash on the discipline and public security in the society,” he maintained. The CMC chairman and members offered their support to community policing and expressed their readiness to play a vital role in supporting the attempts of the ministry through a partnership between the police and community members. The visit comes in the framework of propagating the principles of community policing and on the basis of ‘security is the responsibility of all’ approach, as directed by the Minister of State for Interior Affairs HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani. The committee members included legal affairs director Col Hamad Ahmed al-Muhannadi, public relations director Lt Col Abdullah Khalifa al-Muftah, international co-operation official Abdullah Dhain al-Kuwari, human resources assistant director Captain Mohamed Hamad al-Ghayatheen, and Dr Hamdi Shaba’n from the office of the Minister of State for Interior Affairs were also present.
