‘Battered’ maid taken to hospital

The maid as she looked on Wednesday
By Nour Abuzant

AN Indonesian housemaid has asked her embassy for legal help after accusing her sponsor of beating her.
The young woman – currently recovering in a psychiatric hospital – claims she was repeatedly hit with a ladle, suffering severe bruising to her body and face.
Her female sponsor, who works as a police officer, has told investigators that the maid fell from the first floor of her home.
However, doctors have concluded that the Indonesian woman’s injuries are consistent with a “continuous beating”.
The maid was allegedly battered earlier this week. She told investigators that her employer became angry when she found her nine-year-old child playing with water.
A source told Gulf Times: “The maid was repeatedly hit with a ladle on different parts of her body and bruises are visible.”
After the alleged attack, the 23-year-old maid sought refuge with her recruitment agency.
Staff there took her to a clinic and the police were informed. The woman subsequently stayed three days at Khalifa police station before being moved to a hospital.
The young woman came to Qatar on September 17 last year and has worked with two hosting families. She previously worked in Kuwait.
Police are investigating the maid’s claims.
