By Nour Abuzant AN Indonesian housemaid has asked her embassy for legal help after accusing her sponsor of beating her. The young woman – currently recovering in a psychiatric hospital – claims she was repeatedly hit with a ladle, suffering severe bruising to her body and face. Her female sponsor, who works as a police officer, has told investigators that the maid fell from the first floor of her home. However, doctors have concluded that the Indonesian woman’s injuries are consistent with a “continuous beating”. The maid was allegedly battered earlier this week. She told investigators that her employer became angry when she found her nine-year-old child playing with water. A source told Gulf Times: “The maid was repeatedly hit with a ladle on different parts of her body and bruises are visible.” After the alleged attack, the 23-year-old maid sought refuge with her recruitment agency. Staff there took her to a clinic and the police were informed. The woman subsequently stayed three days at Khalifa police station before being moved to a hospital. The young woman came to Qatar on September 17 last year and has worked with two hosting families. She previously worked in Kuwait. Police are investigating the maid’s claims. |
