‘Health for all’ the aim

There is an urgent need for social change that could lead to better healthcare facilities, Qatar’s Minister of Health, HE Dr Sheikha Ghalia bint Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, has said.
In her inaugural address to the Primary Health Care – 2008 conference,  which opened in Doha yesterdThere is an urgent need for social change that could lead to better healthcare facilities, Qatar’s Minister of Health, HE Dr Sheikha Ghalia bint Mohamed bin Hamad al-Thani, has said.ay, she referred to the principles laid out in the first universal declaration on the need for primary health at a conference organised by the World Health Organisation 30 years ago in Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan.
Dr Ghalia said that the time had come to work vigorously for social change that could help remove political and economic hurdles standing in the way of improving health care facilities. The international community had in that declaration highlighted the fact that primary healthcare was an integral part of the health portfolio of every country.
“Our focus should be on achieving ‘good health for all’ and work our priorities in the given situation. We have also to be more pro-active with the different segments of our society and evolve individual and collective partnership in all our health care efforts.
“This conference of ours is also in consonance with five other regional conferences that have been held in different parts of the world during the past several years. We are now in a position to exchange information and expertise and prepare ourselves to face many challenges in the future.
“The State of Qatar has since the 1950s been paying great attention to the development of healthcare facilities in the country. It has provided for a vast financial outlay to implement various schemes and has also developed human resources to the optimum level possible."
