THE Third Line is presenting Amir H Fallah and his latest series of paintings at its new gallery in Doha, from September 24 to October 25. Fallah composes prickly cacti in the arid desert landscape, transforming them to become a metaphor for love and human relationships. Both prehistoric and futuristic, this series, as with most of Fallah’s work, references his boyhood love affairs. Fallah, who interviewed several men and woman about love, asking, among other things, “Is love similar to cacti?” created a series of works based on these answers. The end result is works such as ‘Touching with Full Knowledge of Pain’, ‘Kissing in the Sun’ and ‘She Liked It but I Was Hoping For More’. In these works Fallah reveals the ambiguous, yet personal nature of the desert landscapes. Fallah constructs Hollywood-esque imagery of desert landscapes which become, simultaneously, both awkward and naïve. The Third Line is an art gallery representing contemporary Middle Eastern artists. The Third Line opened a gallery in Doha in May this year. |
