THE foundation stone for the new Al Khor International School (AKIS) Primary School, meant to serve the needs of RasGas and Qatargas employees in Al Khor, was laid by RasGas managing director Hamad Rashid al-Mohannadi along with senior officials and Qatargas representatives yesterday.
The school is expected to be operational by the end of 2009. In addition to providing first rate British curriculum primary education services to 1,700 students, the school’s extra-curricular facilities include a large playing field, an enclosed swimming pool complex and an athletic track which can also be enjoyed by the whole community.
Speaking on the occasion, al-Mohannadi said that RasGas and Qatargas have a long-standing commitment to the wellbeing and welfare of their employees and their families.
“In particular, education is something which both companies feel very strongly about, and as more and more employees choose to join RasGas and Qatargas, we plan to ensure that their families have access to the best facilities and services possible,” he explained.
Commenting on the occasion, chief operating officer (administration) Ghanim al-Kuwari stated that the stone laying ceremony is another step toward building the strong relationship with the employees and to make sure they feel secure about the education of their dependents.
