ExxonMobil, TAMUQ sign sponsor deal

Dean Weichold and Cox hold the sponsorship cheque

TEXAS A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) and ExxonMobil Qatar (EMQI) have entered into an agreement under which the oil giant sponsors the students who are taking part in the annual Student Paper Contest. 
TAMUQ’ dean and CEO, Mark Weichold, and EMQI vice-president, Dan Cox, signed a memorandum of understanding stating that EMQI would sponsor the first round of the annual TAMUQ Student Paper Contest, and the second run-off competition between the winners, as well as expenses for the top two winners to travel to the sub-regional competition of the Society of Petroleum Engineering Student Paper Contest that will be held in one of the GCC countries.
The winners of the sub-regional contest will take part in the Middle East-North Africa regional competition to select a student who will participate in the international contest that will be held in Denver, Colorado, in fall 2008.
On Saturday, the Petroleum Engineering Programme at TAMUQ, hosted the annual TAMUQ Student Paper Contest as well.
The contest allows university students to write and present technical papers. Contest participation was made up of 40 third and fourth-year students.
Papers and presentations were judged by industry professionals during the event and the top two students from each session received a prize of QR1,000 and QR500, respectively.
The winners for senior level session 1 were:
Megha Mohan, first, Amna al-Tayeeb, second.
Senior level session 2 winners were:
Sara al-Saadi, first and Lama al-Oreibi, second.
Junir level session 1: Bashir Sinno, first, Fatima al-Mulla, second.
Junior level session 2: Hussein Jichi, first, Sara Khashabi, second.
Junior level session 3: Mehrenoosh Saneifar, first, Noor al-Sooj, second
Junior level session 4: Mohamed Juma’a, first, and Tausif Ahmed, second.
