NEW DELHI: Ruling Congress Party chief Sonia Gandhi was in hospital but in stable condition on New Year’s day following an asthma attack, the Press Trust of India news agency reported yesterday. The 61-year-old Gandhi was taken to the city’s Sir Ganga Ram hospital with breathing difficulties late Monday. Gandhi was diagnosed with a chest infection, B K Roy, chairman of the hospital’s board told the news channel CNN-IBN. Her condition was reported to be stable, PTI added. “Mrs Gandhi came to our hospital with cough and mild breathing difficulty and was diagnosed to have chest infection. She is on treatment and is better and stable now,” Roy said. “She may be discharged tomorrow,” he said. Scores of party workers turned up at the hospital to meet Gandhi but were not allowed to go anywhere near her ward. Some of her supporters were seen praying for her speedy recovery and others were holding “Get Well Soon” placards. – Agencies
