BANGKOK: An American tourist died after taking a generic version of Viagra sexual potency tablets before having sex with a Thai bar girl, police said yesterday. The tourist, Roald Kipu, 58, took three pills of Kamagra, a drug with the same formula as Viagra, before climbing into bed with a bar girl he had picked up on Sunday evening in Thailand’s resort city of Pattaya. He arrived at the seaside city, known for its booming sex trade, earlier that day. The girl reported to the police at half an hour past midnight that Kipu had collapsed and stopped breathing during their tryst. Police officers found nothing unusual in the dead man’s room on the sixth floor of the New Star Apartment in Chon Buri’s Bang Lamung district, nor signs of violence on his body, according to the Nation Online website. Investigators did find a four-tablet pack of Kamagra with only one pill left. Viagra - which dilates blood vessels - has been blamed for a number of deaths in the US, although the manufacturers claim it is safe. The Thai medical board has warned that generic Viagra, often from unreliable sources, may contain impurities or may be stronger than expected. Kipu’s body has been sent for autopsy.–DPA |
