ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan government has no plan to remove Intelligence Bureau Director General Brigadier (Retd) Ejaz Shah on demand of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto, it has been learnt. The Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief is completing his contractual tenure in government service in February next year. Bhutto had demanded his removal late Thursday night after the blasts rocked the public rally she was leading after her arrival in Karachi. Bhutto had aired her reservations about the officer earlier in London. The government has asked her to furnish any proof about the officer to support her accusations. Bhutto had reportedly nominated him as prospective accused along with two other officials if she is assassinated, in a letter to President General Pervez Musharraf last Tuesday. Syed Ejaz Shah had suffered serious heart attack early this year and wanted to get retirement on recovery but the government asked him to continue. However, it is unlikely that he would be asked to pack now, official sources said. Shah was the Punjab home secretary before taking over as IB chief four years ago. — Internews
