December 18 is declared a national day
HH the Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani issued yesterday Law No. 10 of 2007 amending some provisions of Decree-Law No. 10 of 1974 establishing Qatar Petroleum.
The Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent also issued Law No. 61 of 2007 announcing the day of Sheikh Jassem bin Mohamed bin Thani’s assumption of power as a national day in the state.
Sheikh Jassem bin Mohamed bin Thani, founder of the State of Qatar, had assumed power on December 18, 1878. According to the law, December 18 shall be a national day in the state. It will be a public holiday every year.
The two laws are to go into effect from the date of issue and are to be published in the official gazette. – QNA
