ABU DHABI: Qatar Foundation’s Education City’s promotional tour to introduce its world-class university facilities will reach Abu Dhabi tomorrow, following successful events in Doha, Manama and Oman.

The universities will showcase their programmes at Le Royal Meridian Abu Dhabi from 6pm to 9pm.

The exhibit will feature representatives from the Education City campuses and highlight the application process, the range of scholarships available, the facilities available at Education City for the students and information about the programs available.

"Qatar Foundation is committed to preparing students to occupy leadership roles in an increasingly global society," said Dr Abdulla Al Thani, vice-president of education at Qatar Foundation.

"UAE nationals have the chance to apply for scholarship programmes through a scholarship fund that was initiated by Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid last year during a visit to Education City. Qatar Education City already has a number of Emirati students studying under the scholarship deal," he said.

Commenting on the standard of education and life on campus, Laith Algaz, freshman student at Carnegie Mellon University said: "The branch campuses at Qatar Foundation offer exactly the same degrees and programmes as their main campuses and provide a unique learning experience that is replicated nowhere else.

"I chose Carnegie Mellon University because of its reputation and its worldwide ranking of undergraduate business university and for its quantitative focus, but at Qatar Education City I can also study programs in engineering, art and design, international relations and premedical and medical degrees all in the same place.

"Also, coming from the Gulf region, I find it great to stay in contact with the Gulf atmosphere and not have to travel to Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh for my degree."

The state-of-the-art campus boasts wireless Internet connectivity, the latest teaching and learning technologies, excellent student accommodation and first-class leisure facilities.

"The campuses are also undertaking numerous research and joint venture programmes with some of the world’s leading companies. With the opening up of the Qatar Science and Technology Park in 2007 to foster research and development within the region, studying at Education City can open up a whole range of career and research options that students would be hard pressed to find at many other universities," added Dr al-Thani.

The exhibition, which is open to all, will give students and visitors an opportunity to hear about Education City, its programmes, the application process, financial aid and scholarships. Those attending will also be able to speak directly to representatives of the five universities and Qatar Foundation regarding college admission tests and English proficiency exams, as well as career options.

Last month’s promotional events in Qatar and Bahrain were highly successful with many students enrolling at one of the five participating institutions.

The Abu Dhabi roadshow will be held at Le Royal Meridian from 6pm - 9pm tomorrow.
