QF pupils briefed about options at Education City

Staff Reporter

CARNEGIE Mellon University in Qatar (CMUQ) and Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar (SFS-Q) hosted 60 students from Qatar Foundation’s Academic Bridge Programme (ABP) to inform them about the educational options available in Education City.

A faculty member from each area of study at the universities gave a presentation. Sham Kekre spoke about Carnegie Mellon’s business administration curriculum and John Barr spoke about the computer science programme.

Gary Wasserman gave a presentation on SFS-Q’s international affairs degree. SFS-Q’s director of admissions Liz Kepferle, and CMUQ’s director of admissions Bryan Zerbe, conducted a presentation about the college admissions process to enlighten the students about the academic standards required to be accepted at each of the universities.

"We are working closely with the community to ensure that local middle and high school students have the opportunity to learn what’s needed to join Education City’s world-class American universities," said Zerbe.

The ABP was founded in 2001 as the first co-educational, post-secondary programme in Qatar. Its mission is to equip specially selected, top-calibre secondary school graduates for admission to and success in degree programmes at the universities in Education City and other English-language, world-class universities.

ABP annually admits secondary school graduates from Qatar and other countries in the region who must improve their English, mathematics and/or science skills in order to meet the admission standards of highly selective English-language universities.
