Qatar and Venezuela signed a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding following a round of official talks between HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in Caracas yesterday.
The Emir and the Venezuelan president discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between Qatar and Venezuela, particularly in the fields of economy, investment and energy.
The official round of talks that took place yesterday at the Presidential Palace in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas also discussed developments on the regional and international arenas, especially in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue in particular.
Members of the official delegation accompanying the Emir and Venezuelan ministers attended the meeting.
Following the talks, the Emir and the Venezuelan president witnessed the signing of several agreements and memoranda of understanding at the Presidential Palace.
An agreement on exempting diplomatic and special passports from entry visa was signed between the governments of Qatar and Venezuela. An agreement on co-operation in the legal field was signed, stipulating the exchange of expertise in the work sphere of the ministries of justice in both countries. Another agreement was signed in the field of air services.
A memorandum of understanding on sports and youth sector was signed, stipulating co-operation in sports activities, participation in workshops, the exchange of coaches and sports specialists, and in sports media.
The Emir and the Venezuelan president also witnessed the signing of a mutual administrative help agreement to properly implement the customs law between the governments of Qatar and Venezuela.
They also witnessed the signing of an agreement between Qatar Central Bank and the Central Bank of Venezuela that aims to exchange information on the stability and development of the financial system between the two countries.
Additionally an MoU between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Venezuelan Federation of Chambers of Commerce was signed with the aim of working to develop trade exchange and economic co-operation between companies as well as establishing joint business councils.
A fraternity and twinning agreement was signed as well between the Doha Municipality and the Libertador Bolivarian Municipality in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
Earlier in a  joint statement during the official reception held for the Emir at the presidential palace in Caracas yesterday, President Maduro expressed his pleasure at the visit by the Emir, saying that it will raise the level of bilateral relations between the two countries.
The Venezuelan president said that Qatar and Venezuela have been partners in the sector of oil over the past several years and have now extended that partnership to gas as well.
The Venezuelan president added that Emir’s visit and the agreements that will be signed by the two countries reflect the strong and well-established relations between the two countries which will flourish further in the future.
The Emir expressed his pleasure over the visit and its importance in strengthening the relations between the two countries, noting  that this visit is his second within one year, and that the meetings with the president during the year indicate the strength of relations between the two countries, stressing that bilateral relations will expand, especially after the signing of a number of agreements yesterday.
The Emir referred to mutual understanding of both the Qatari and Venezuelan sides in many situations, especially the attitude towards the Arab people that want to live in freedom and dignity.
The Emir praised Venezuela’s position towards the Palestinian issue, and thanked the president for that.
The Emir arrived in Caracas on Tuesday evening on a two-day official visit to Venezuela.
The Emir and his accompanying delegation were welcomed  at Caracas International Airport by Vice-President of Venezuela Jorge Arreaza Monserrat, Foreign Minister of Venezuela Delsey Rodriguez,  Qatar’s ambassador to Venezuela Battal Mujab al-Dosari and heads of Arab diplomatic missions accredited to Venezuela and staff members of Qatar’s embassy.
