Some Indian schools have postponed second terminal examinations scheduled for today, to next week due to the prevailing uncertainty over the weather conditions.
MES Indian School has postponed its annual day celebrations due to be held today and tomorrow. New dates will be announced later, the school said.
Meanwhile, most of the schools are going ahead with the normal schedule, while some schools have declared a holiday for the students today.
The Supreme Education Council (SEC) declared a holiday yesterday around 9.30am for all the schools across the country on account of the heavy rains that lashed the city. The schools had to make sudden arrangements to send children home.
Many of the schools contacted the parents and asked them to collect their children while many had to retain them in the school for several hours as parents could not reach the schools immediately due to the heavy traffic and also due to the unexpected
holiday decision.
However, the schools made necessary arrangements to retain the students in the classrooms until the parents reached the school. Several schools delayed the dispersal of the students as many of the parents were at their workplace and there were none at the residences.
Principals of many schools told Gulf Times that they had made arrangements to call the parents or send SMS to all the parents. The teachers were asked to contact the parents directly and pass the information. By noon most of the students were sent home.
