The US embassy is partnering with Texas A&M University at Qatar (Tamuq) to conduct a series of workshops, explaining the concepts of 3D printing, at the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC).
The series, “World of 3D Printing”, began yesterday and would continue until November 17.
The workshops will explore broad topics, including 3D technology, as well as technical information related to design and AutoCad objects such as lines, arcs and circles.
“The World of 3D Printing” is a US embassy-sponsored education programme in partnership with QSC.
Over the past few years, the embassy has worked closely with QSC to provide technical equipment and experts in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics education.
In continuation of the embassy’s partnership with QSC, Yasser al-Hamidi, a 3D printing expert and laboratory manager in the Mechanical Engineering Programme at Tamuq, is addressing the workshops.

Value of real estate sales crosses QR1bn

The total value of trading in real estate sales contracts registered with the Real Estate Registration Department at the Ministry of Justice from August 1 to 5 amounted to QR1,043,852,382.
According to the weekly bulletin issued by the Department of Real Estate Registration, the list of properties that were traded by sale includes open plots of land, houses and multi-purpose buildings, which are located in the municipalities of Doha, Umm Salal, Al Khor, Al Dhakira, Al Rayyan, Al Daayen, Al Wakrah and Al Shamal.

GMC Sierra 2014-15 models recalled
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce (MEC) has recalled 2014-2015 models of GMC Sierra to reprogramme the engine control unit, the official Qatar News Agency reported yesterday.
In a statement, the ministry said the move comes within the framework of its efforts to ensure that car agents comply with regulations concerning maintenance of vehicles and fixing of defects, as well as within its endeavours to protect consumer rights.  
Further, the MEC stressed it would co-ordinate with the dealer to follow up on maintenance, repairs and communication with customers to ensure the implementation of procedures and repair of defective cars.  
The ministry has urged consumers to report to the Consumer Protection Department.

8th GCC Quality Conference gets under way
Under the patronage of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the 8th GCC Quality Conference got under way yesterday with the participation of a number of government organisations and representatives from GCC states.
During the opening of the conference, HE the Minister of Administrative Development Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi announced that the ministry plans to launch a Government Excellence Award next year.  
He stressed that Qatar has been attaching great importance to the issue of quality and evaluation of institutional performance through restructuring, and has created the Ministry of Administrative Development which has established a competent department to deal with quality .
