The first ever Global Youth Consultation ( GYC) of the World Humanitarian Summit (WHS) will be held today and tomorrow at the Hamad Bin Khalifa University Students Centre.
Reach Out To Asia (Rota), a member of Qatar Foundation  and the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth, are hosting the Global Youth Consultation of the World Humanitarian Summit.
The event will be attended by HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, assistant minister for International Co-operation at the  Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Essa al-Mannai, executive director, Rota, Dr Jemilah Mahmood, chief of the World Humanitarian Summit Secretariat and Ahmad Alhendawi, United Nations Secretary General’s Special Envoy on Youth among other dignitaries.
About 300 young people between 18 and 30 years of age will be participating from 82 countries in the event. A number of international partner organisations will be take part, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, The Humanitarian Forum, the United Nations Children’s Fund, the United Nations Population Fund and Plan International.
The Global Youth Consultation aims to gather input from youth on humanitarian challenges and solutions, as well as foster increased collaboration between youth organisations ahead of the first-ever World Humanitarian Summit, which will be convened by the United Nations Secretary-General in Istanbul on May 23-24, 2016. The summit aims to find new ways to tackle humanitarian challenges in our rapidly changing world.
