Qatar Mobility Innovations Centre (QMIC) signed an agreement with the General Directorate of Traffic for collaboration and establishing a partnership in the fields of strategic traffic studies, accidents prevention and public safety awareness.
The agreement was signed by the Director General of the Traffic Department, Brig Mohamed Saad al-Kharji, and the executive director and CEO of QMIC, Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya, at the headquarters of the Traffic Department.
The agreement seeks to establish a high-level framework of co-operation between the two entities to carry out a number of activities to save lives on Qatar’s roads, improve safety, minimise travel time, and improve quality of life by alleviating traffic congestion through leveraging cost effective advanced technology.
“Areas of co-operation include conducting traffic studies on specific Doha roads using QMIC’s Masarak to obtain factual data concerning the movement of vehicles at selected points to help authorities predict future traffic volumes and evaluate project alternatives in reducing congestion,” said Dr Abu-Dayya.
QMIC will also integrate a new feature in its Masarak iTraffic application for reporting accidents to the traffic department, Abu-Dayya added.
“We are very excited about leveraging QMIC’s Masarak system to increase our knowledge about the traffic flow in Doha, and to increase safety on the roads,” said Brig al- Kharji.
The Traffic Department is prepared to form a work team in co-ordination with the QMIC to set up a control centre at its headquarters to view live traffic feed and accidents on the roads, Brig al-Kharji said.
In addition, the two parties have agreed to meet regularly and conduct safety awareness workshops and campaigns for the benefit of the public.
