The transport sector has accounted for the largest share of the major infrastructure projects in the country and this has posed major challenges to the Ministry of Transport, according to HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani.
“The transport ministry has taken some important steps to achieve its main objectives, including the massive development of the land transport infrastructure,” he explained in a speech, the copies of which were delivered to the attendants at the launching ceremony of the Qatar Traffic Control and Qatar Highway Design manuals on Monday.
He said the project of updating the traffic manuals to the international standards was in line with the growing requirements of the country’s road users at a time of large scale economic development.
While highlighting the role of the transport sector in accelerating economic development, HE the Prime Minister said it is extremely difficult for any country to achieve sustainable development without the support of an effective and efficient transport system.

While appreciating the role played by the Ministry of Transport in updating the manuals, incorporating features from widely acclaimed international models and standards, HE Sheikh Abdullah also hailed the team members from partners, namely Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Ministry of Interior’s Traffic Department and Ashghal, who were involved in preparing the manual.
Hoping that the country’s residents would benefit considerably from the two manuals, the Prime Minister said their updates would enhance the safety of not only the drivers but also all other road users.
