A shopping centre built about two years ago on Street No. 16 of the Industrial Area was destroyed in a fire that broke out in the early hours yesterday. There were no reports of any injuries.
The complex, named Mall of Asia, started operations early in 2013 and had housed a hypermarket and some other  establishments.
The blaze was put out several hours later even though smoke continued to emanate from the area even in the afternoon. Though no reason is attributed to the fire, there are conflicting reports from the
residents of the area.
As a cautionary measure, some of the establishments functioning in the adjacent complex were ordered to close by Civil Defence authorities, who are investigating the reasons of the fire.
