QC holding Iftar meal projects in 40 countries Qatar Charity (QC) has been holding its Iftar meal projects from the first day of Ramadan in 40 countries around the world.

This comes as part of QC’s Ramadan projects implemented outside Qatar at a cost of QR30mn to serve 1,448,426 people, according to a statement.
The Ramadan projects include mass Iftar banquets and distribution of Ramadan food baskets that contain basic food supplies enough to meet the requirements of families for the entire holy month, the statement notes.
In Burkina Faso, daily Iftar meals are organised in a number of mosques in the capital, Ouagadougou. Iftar meals are also distributed among students of national universities and in major
cities, orphanages and elderly care homes.
The project aims at providing Iftar meals for 14,000 fasting Muslims in Burkina Faso during the holy month. QC distributed 810 Iftar meals on the first day of Ramadan alone.
In Niger, QC organised Iftar banquets for 2,500 fasting Muslims at nine locations on the first three days of Ramadan. More than 100,000 people are expected to benefit from the QC project in Niger.
In Asia, QC’s Iftar meal campaigns have been launched in Bangladesh in the form of food baskets or ready-made meals. Priority has been given to QC social care centres that support more than 2,500 orphans, students, religious workers and teachers.
On the first three days of Ramadan, 2,265 food baskets were distributed at various locations. Each basket
contained 43kg of basic food items.
Further, QC offers cooked meals for fasting Muslims in Bangladesh. Each meal contains rice, vegetables, meat, fruits and juice. The meals are distributed to a number of locations across Bangladesh, including QC care centres.
Some 70,000 people are expected to benefit from the project in Bangladesh during Ramadan.
In Europe, QC has distributed Ramadan food baskets among poor families and orphans, especially those located in distant areas and cannot receive fresh cooked meals.
About 3,000 individuals have benefited from the food basket distribution in Kosovo, including orphans, the poor, persons with disabilities and students. The target locations cover six districts where a number of QC projects and campaigns are operating.
QC was aiming to expand the Iftar meal distribution to reach more needy groups in villages and mountains.
The number of people expected to benefit from the project in Kosovo is about 4,300, including various groups in the six districts.
QC has been carrying out this project in Kosovo for the past 16 years. In addition, QC financially sponsors 1,500 individuals in Kosovo round the year.
The project, which is a part of QC’s Ramadan campaign for this year titled “Ramadan Al Basma” (Ramadan of Smiles), has witnessed a “quantum leap” within and outside Qatar in terms of the cost, variety and number of recipients, the statement notes.
This year’s local campaign costs QR20mn compared to last year’s QR16mn.
On the other hand, there is a QR11mn increase in the cost of projects implemented outside Qatar this year, with a total of QR38mn compared to last year’s QR27mn.
The number of people benefiting from this year’s projects is expected to increase by 100,000. The total number of beneficiaries is expected to be 1,448,426 people.
Besides, QC’s Ramadan initiatives this year, especially Iftar projects, pay significant attention to Syrian refugees and displaced people as well as countries going through extraordinary circumstances, the statement adds.
