The Ramadan Festival at Katara - the Cultural Village, titled “Miracles and Inventions”, has been drawing a large number of visitors from different walks of life.
The activities and attractions include an interactive book expo, an exhibition of inventions and the camera obscura of Ibn al-Haytham. The festivities will continue until July 22.
Visitors to Katara during Ramadan have had the opportunity to explore the accomplishments of Muslim scholars through a “first-of-its-kind” interactive book exhibition, being held until July 22. A selection of digital books on Muslim scholars and intellectuals and their accomplishments has been displayed as part of the expo.
Guests from different age groups could digitally browse through the collection of books and manuscripts in an easy and simple way. These include ‘The Chosen Letters’ of Jaber bin Hayan and his three publications in chemistry as well as manuscripts such as ‘The Calculation Summary’ of Baha Eddin al-Amely.
In the first two weeks of the holy month, Katara’s exhibition of inventions has been a favoured destination for those willing to learn about the technical secrets that have enabled scholars to invent advanced machines in the middle ages. Visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to see models of some of the inventions of Muslim scholars in the fields of engineering, medicine, astronomy and optics until July 22. The inventions, which are displayed with the help of hologram technology, include the camera obscura of al-Haytham, astrolabe, surgical tools, turbine of Hassan al-Jarrah and water-raising machine of Al Jazari.
Katara has also displayed the inventions of al-Haytham, which have paved the way for modern creations. The presentation lasts three minutes and uses images with a voiceover in both Arabic and English.
