Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) has seen an influx of employment and internship applicants during the latest phase of its Find Your Place recruitment drive, according to a statement from the company.
The campaign forms part of the company’s Qatarisation strategy, which aims to increase the number of Qataris in leadership, specialist and offshore positions.
The Find Your Place recruitment campaign featured three talented Qataris - Mohamed al-Marri, Moza Yousef al-Naimi and Khalid Jassim - who’ve taken their careers at MOQ forward with the support of one-to-one coaching, mentoring and fast-track development for high achievers.
Maersk Oil Qatar has also been working closely with the Supreme Education Council, Qatar University and campuses at Hamad Bin Khalifa University to encourage more internship opportunities. The Future Leaders Internship Competition has just closed and attracted more than 90 applicants from high-school and university students, the statement notes.
Lewis Affleck, managing director of MOQ, said: “We’ve developed unrivalled expertise and technical understanding of Qatar’s challenging Al Shaheen offshore field, and Qataris have played a key role in that. I’m delighted that we’re seeing more Qataris applying to join us, more Qataris taking leadership and senior specialist roles as well as more young people applying for internships.
“As part of the Maersk Group, with five separate business units already active in Qatar and operations in more than 130 countries worldwide, I believe there is no better international company for talented Qataris to join.”
MOQ is focused on quadrupling the number of Qataris in leadership and senior specialist positions by 2017 as part of its Qatarisation strategy, which is supported by a series of development programmes and workplace support.
The company’s Qatarisation efforts were recognised last month with an award for “Overall best support to Qatarisation” at the annual Qatarisation Review Meeting.
Sheikh Jassim bin Saud al-Thani, Maersk Oil Qatar’s head of Qatarisation, said: “The success of our Qatarisation strategy - in attracting, retaining and developing more Qataris - illustrates that Qatarisation is a key business priority for Maersk Oil Qatar. We have an experienced and driven team, which has quite rightly earned a reputation as specialists in the Al Shaheen offshore field - talented Qataris will be just as important to us in the future as they have been in the past.”
