Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation’s (Kahramaa) Awareness Park in Al-Thumama has won the National Energy Globe Award 2015.
The park is ready and is awaiting inauguration soon.
The award is in recognition of the energy awareness efforts initiated by Kahramaa through an innovative project as the Awareness Park, which has been designed to function as a science museum for disseminating information on ways to conserve water and electricity, and also to serve as an original source of knowledge for young visitors.
The award is presented by Energy Globe Foundation, a non-profit organisation founded by Austrian energy pioneer Wolfgang Neumann.
Qassim Abdullah al-Mahmoud, head of Kahramaa’s design engineering section, received the certificate of achievement from Gerd Bommer, commercial counsellor at the Austrian embassy
in Doha.
Bommer said more than 1,500 projects from nearly 170 countries are submitted every year for Energy Global Award, which is today one of the most prestigious environmental prizes worldwide.
The award is held under the patronage of Unesco and in
co-operation with UNEP.
Innovations Unlimited ME, which installed three renewable energy systems at the Awareness Park submitted the project for the honour on behalf of Kahramaa. The company installed three renewable energy systems at the park and they contribute to power generation and water heating for the museum
complex.
While complimenting Kahramaa for the honour, Markus Jordan, managing director, Innovations Unlimited ME, said the park stands as one of Qatar’s major sustainability landmarks.
The primary objective of Energy Globe Foundation is to create a higher level of awareness all over the world concerning the necessity of using resources in a sustainable manner, especially as far as energy is concerned, and, on the other hand, by planning specific projects aimed at creating a more sustainable future for coming generations and improving living conditions in developing countries.
Wolfgang Neumann has actively and tirelessly been promoting awareness about energy efficiency for more than 25 years. In this quarter century Neumann founded numerous national initiatives, actions and campaigns on the subject. With the Energy Globe World Award for Sustainability, founded in 1999, Neumann achieved an international breakthrough.
