Doha

A Doha Criminal Court has acquitted two physicians, an Iraqi and a GCC national, working at a private hospital in Doha from the charges of medical negligence while conducting a surgery on a Qatari lady to remove her appendix, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The two were accused by the Public Prosecution of not taking the necessary medical procedures and precautions as they tried to perform a laparoscopic surgery causing an injury to an artery, leading to severe complications and bleeding. Eventually, they had to resort to a normal surgery, which caused the lady more complications and put her health at risk.
The family of the patient filed a complaint accusing the two doctors of mishandling their patient as her case deteriorated day after day with high temperature. Though the doctors asked that the lady be sent home, the family refused because she started to vomit some green liquid. Accordingly, the woman was sent to Hamad Hospital for treatment, where she started to improve.
The court reviewed all the related testimonies and documents and heard the statement of an expert who affirmed that the doctors could not be accused of negligence or wrongdoing and acted as required professionally for handling such cases.
