HE the Advisory Council Chairman Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi met the secretaries general of GCC parliaments, secretary general of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), secretary general of the Arab Parliament, GCC ambassadors to Doha and the delegations accompanying them, on the occasion of the 18th regular meeting for secretaries general of GCC parliaments, which started yesterday in Doha. The meeting discussed issues on the agenda of the meeting and means of co-operation among GCC legislative bodies.

Defence Minister holds meetings

HE the Minister of State for Defence Affairs Major General Hamad bin Ali al-Attiyah met the Assistant to the Belarus President for National Security Affairs Viktor Lukashenko in Doha yesterday. Major General al-Attiyah also met Morocco’s Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister for National Defense Abdellatif Loudiyi yesterday.

Free recall

The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has announced a free recall campaign of Honda Motorcycle NC700/750 made in 2014 for a manufacturers’ defect in the reading of the speed and fuel odometer. The campaign is jointly organised with Doha Marketing and Services Company, the authorised distributor of Honda motorcycles in Qatar.


Three Asian expats get 15-year jail terms

A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced three Asians to 15 years in jail each, for smuggling heroin from an Asian country into Doha, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
The court has also imposed a fine of QR200,000 on each of them and ordered their deportation on completion of the prison term. The illicit drugs had been confiscated by the authorities. The Drug Prevention Department at the Ministry of Interior had received information that an Asian expatriate was trading in heroin, and accordingly, an undercover officer was appointed to approach the man and asked to buy drugs from him. They agreed to meet at a certain place, where one of the convicted men appeared with a bag containing 162 capsules of heroin.
When asked how he got the contraband, he admitted that it belonged to him and also mentioned two other Asian men who imported such illicit drugs to Doha. Some 1,962 capsules were seized from the men.
