Widam Food Company yesterday inaugurated a sophisticated meat shop at Al Qutaifiyah area in Doha’s West Bay, as part of the newly launched Al Furjan (neighbourhood) markets.
The outlet was opened by Widam chairman Sheikh Nayif bin Eid al-Thani, accompanied by CEO Abdulrahman al-Khayarin and company and municipality officials.
The shop is one of the five similar outlets recently launched by Widam in various areas of Doha. The other shops are in areas such as Al Thumama, Rawdat Aqdim, Bani Hajar and Al Mearad. Currently, these outlets sell subsidised Australian sheep meat products, with plans to expand in the future to include other types of meat.
The new outlet employs sophisticated disinfection and hygiene methods and equipment to ensure the highest health standards for the products on display.
“Widam has various plans to increase the number of sophisticated abattoirs around the country, even in the outskirts,” Sheikh Nayif said on the occasion. There are already plans to introduce such abattoirs near to the ranches and farms.
“Widam is also studying various investment projects in Australia for sheep farms and other related projects. The company already has various projects in Sudan and there are further expansion plans.
Al-Khayarin stressed that Widam has undertaken various development works at the Automatic Slaughterhouse at Abu Hamour and imports good qualities of cattle, keeping them in well-equipped barns with quality veterinary services, and follow up all the process until the slaughter and preparation process.
“The sales outlets and meat shop is the final stage. We are keen to adopt the best practices in the field. Besides expansion of outlets to make them easily accessible for individual consumers, we have introduced a home delivery service, where customers could order their requests by phone and get it in the shortest possible time delivered to their doorstep in our modern fleet of freezer vehicles to guarantee fresh and hygienic products,” explained al-Khayarin.
The new outlet also introduced a meat shop operation handbook to instruct both customers and vendors on the best practices to handle meat in a safe and hygienic manner.
