Aspetar, Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, through its Sports Dentistry Department, will organise a symposium about “Oral Health in Sports and Beyond” at Aspetar Auditorium tomorrow.
The aim of the symposium is to encourage health professionals in Qatar to promote the benefits of a good oral hygiene and motivate the healthcare community to improve the oral health education in Qatar.
‘Oral Health in Sports and Beyond’ symposium will bring together dentists and reputable healthcare professionals from across Qatar to educate about the importance of maintaining a good oral health.
The objective of this project is to raise oral hygiene awareness throughout the sporting community. It has become apparent the prevalence of poor oral hygiene in athletes due to a lack of awareness.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr Mohamed Alsaey, Director of Sport Dentistry Department at Aspetar said: “Our priority is to educate and enforce, both through prevention and application of the necessary tools for ensuring athletes are performing to the best of their potential; with good oral hygiene and good overall health”.
He added: “By providing our athletes and colleagues with the vital knowledge and tools to improve oral health we will be able to further demonstrate the role of Sports Dentistry in reducing athlete injuries and, inevitably, improving the athletes’ overall wellbeing.
The daylong symposium will gather experts from Qatar to address critical issues about Oral Health in sports such as Professor Johann De Vries Chairman of Dentistry, Hamad Medical Corporation, who will present a topic entitled “Empowering patients to have a smile for life” and Dr Mohamed Ghaith al-Kuwari, Acting Director General of Aspetar who will speak about “Smoking cessation in dental practice”.
Dr Mohamed al-Saey, Director of Sport Dentistry Department at Aspetar, will address some unique case discussion and speak about the importance of the periodical check-up for athletes.
