Qatar condemns attack on UN mission camp
Qatar has  condemned an attack which targeted a camp of the UN Stabilisation Mission in Mali in the Gao area in northern Mali in which three civilians were killed and more than 10 people, including nine peacekeepers from Niger, injured.  In a statement yesterday, the Foreign Ministry stressed its denunciation of such acts “which are against human values and constitute an aggression against innocent people, confirming Qatar’s solidarity with the UN mission, especially in light of the role it plays to bring peace and stability to Mali and to maintain its unity and sovereignty”. The ministry expressed support for the Malian people. “The Foreign Ministry also reconfirmed the denunciation of violence in all its forms and manifestation whatever its source or motives,” the official Qatar News Agency reported.

Minister to attend
IMF annual meeting
HE Minister of Finance Ali Sherif al-Emadi yesterday left Doha for the US to participate in the annual and spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group. The meeting, which began yesterday, ends tomorrow. The delegation accompanying the minister  includes Qatar Investment Authority CEO Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani and Qatar Central Bank deputy governor Sheikh Fahad bin Faisal al-Thani.

Saddam aide
‘dies in fighting’
Ezzat Ibrahim al-Douri, a former aide to late Iraqi President Saddam Hussain and an insurgent leader, may have been killed by Iraqi forces and Shia militias. Douri was killed in a military operation, Raed al-Jubouri, the governor of Salahuddin province, told Reuters. The pan-Arab television network Al Arabiya showed photos of a dead man who looked like al-Douri.
