The Ministry of Environment (MoE) Fisheries Department is set to enforce a number of regulations for the operations of fishing vessels during the breeding season of fish during April and May, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported Friday.
A source told the daily that such procedures aim to preserve the fish stock of the country. During the period, each fishing vessel will be allowed to conduct only three trips a month.
Inspectors of the fisheries department are to supervise the enforcement of these regulations in co-operation with the security department concerned and violators would be penalised.
The restrictions on fishing are not expected to cause any shortage in the availability of fish in the local market because the catch is usually double during April- May, the daily added.
