Qatar vows action against drugs menace

Foreign Minister HE Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah met in Vienna yesterday with Yuri Fedotov, Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
Al-Attiyah affirmed Qatar’s keenness to promote joint action to combat drugs and organised crime and strengthen criminal justice systems as part of the preparations for the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice which will be held in Doha in April.
The minister also stressed that the goal of the conference lies in the importance of building stable societies based on the rule of law and human rights.
He also asserted Qatar’s commitment to working closely with member states to make the Doha Declaration a starting point towards achieving justice for all.


Minister attends inauguration of Uruguay president

HE the Minister of Transport Jassim Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti yesterday attended the inauguration ceremony of Tabare Vazquez as the new Uruguayan president in the capital Montevideo.
Al-Sulaiti conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Vazquez and his wishes of further progress and development to the two countries in various fields.
Later in the day, he met Uruguayan Minister of Transport and Public Works Victor Rossi.  
They reviewed bilateral relations and ways of developing them.
Qatar’s ambassador to Uruguay Mohamed Hassan Jaber al-Jaber attended the meeting.


Rumaihi meets Nato official

HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi met in Doha Nato Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow, who is attending the annual Nato Conference on Weapons of Mass Destruction, Arms Control, Disarmament and Non-proliferation.
During the meeting, they discussed issues related to disarmament which aims to reach the desired goals and achieve a quantum leap in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation.
Al-Rumaihi explained that the achievement of peace and security in the region depends on states’ co-operation and their commitment to the resolutions of international legitimacy.
He said the conference represents a very important step in this regard and stressed the importance of taking effective measures to contribute to the promotion of world peace.

Advisory Council holds meeting

The Advisory Council yesterday held its weekly regular meeting under the chairmanship of Speaker HE Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Khulaifi.
At the outset of the meeting, the Secretary-General of the Council Fahad bin Mubarak al-Khayareen read out the agenda which was agreed upon. Then the Council endorsed the minutes of its previous session.
The Council discussed a draft law amending provisions of law No (8) for 1996 and decided to submit its recommendations to the Council of Ministers.
It also discussed the report of the Finance and Economic Affairs Committee on a draft law of the shops and street vendors and decided to submit a report to the Council of Ministers.


Ties reviewed


Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met in Mogadishu with Charge D’affaires of Qatar’s Embassy in Somalia Hasan bin Hamza Asad Mohamed.
The Qatari diplomat met also Somali Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke. During the meetings, they discussed bilateral relations and ways to enhance them.
