Golden Dreams, a group from Geneva is at the Doha Watches and Jewellery Exhibition to sell something certainly more than their dreams.
The company has displayed in the pavilion of local firm Al Bidda a series of eye catching gold-plated iPhones, wallets and some souvenirs.
Capitalising on the growing market for limited edition upmarket premium accessories among Qatar’s affluent, the Geneva firm has showcased iPhones covered in gold from eight to 24 carats.
Each of the smartphone pieces displayed at the pavilion is priced anywhere between QR50,000 and QR100,000.
“Not over, we design iPhones which are as expensive as the costliest Ferrari,” said Golden Dreams project director Johan Jakobson, who describes Qatar as one of the top destinations for such premium accessories.
While speaking about the penchant of the locals for such pieces, one of Jakobson’s colleagues declared “sky is their limit”.
Inquiries with an Al Bidda official found sometimes they sell between 10-15 pieces of iPhones, most of which are upwards of QR100,000.
The pavilion also showcases expensive jewellery items from Europe and India.
The exhibition concludes today.
