HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud yesterday met the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his accompanying delegation. They discussed relations between the two countries and means of developing them in various fields and reviewed matters of mutual concern.

An agreement on co-operation between the two countries in the legal field was signed on the occasion. The agreement was signed by HE the Minister of Justice Dr Hassan Lahdan Saqr al-Mohannadi and Vietnamese Minister of Justice Ha Hung Cuong.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Qatar Nguyen Hoang attended the meeting.

 

FM, Kerry discuss Syrian situation

HE the Foreign Minister Dr Khalid bin Mohamed al-Attiyah received a telephone call from US Secretary of State John Kerry yesterday.  They discussed the situation in Syria.

 

Al-Marri meets  Arab League official

HE the Attorney-General Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri met the Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Economic Affairs Dr Mohamed Ibrahim al-Tuweijri who is currently visiting Qatar.  They discussed means of judicial and legal co-operation.

 

Conference on microelectronics

Texas A&M University at Qatar (TAMUQ) and ExxonMobil Qatar are hosting the 26th International Conference on Microelectronics (ICM 2014), which began yesterday in Doha.

World-renowned experts are attending the three-day event to discuss microelectronics research to advance information and communications technologies.

TAMUQ dean Dr Mark H Weichold said the institution is dedicated to the growth of human capital and the expansion of research in Qatar and globally.

Alistair Routledge, vice president of production and joint interest manager of ExxonMobil Qatar, said: “With 18,000 engineers and scientists and 2,000 PhDs at the centre of our operations, ExxonMobil remains convinced that increasing proficiency in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) subjects is critical to building an innovative, diversified and competitive workforce.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers is the technical sponsor of the conference, which addresses topics such as electronic circuits and systems, CAD tools and design, and nanoelectronics.

 

Gulf Helicopters takes delivery of two more AW189s

Gulf International Services announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Gulf Helicopters, which has two AW189 helicopters in off-shore configuration in fleet, has now taken delivery of two more AW189 helicopters.  

Gulf Helicopters has a total of fifteen AW189s on order and the delivery of the whole batch of aircraft is scheduled to be completed by 2017.

Gulf Helicopters, already a major AW139 operator, becomes the first customer in the Middle East to introduce the AgustaWestland Family concept into operational service.

Gulf Helicopters was also established as an AgustaWestland Authorised Training Centre for the AW139 and AW189 in September 2013.
