HE the Chairman of Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah said that Qatar has taken steps towards building a knowledge-based society with educational systems that integrate knowledge, research, innovative and social activity.

Addressing the 23rd Annual Arab-US Policymakers Conference which opened in Washington yesterday, HE al-Attiyah said Qatar combined two important approaches: ‘Arab and Islamic heritage and recent studies’ to reach the desired goal. 

He praised the dedication and the role of the National Council on US-Arab Relations in improving American understanding of the Arab world, pointing out that the council has taken a leading role under the leadership of Dr John Duke Anthony - Founding President and CEO, National Council on US-Arab Relations and David Bosch - Chairman, Board of Directors, National Council on US-Arab Relations, in order to enhance US-Arab relations based on shared values and interests. That includes holding such a prestigious conference, he said.

He added that Qatar was proud and privileged to participate in the “Model Arab League Programme” for its contribution to bringing American youth closer to Arab culture and history.

He pointed out that the Qatar exchange fellowship programme is looking forward to welcoming a group of US educators and students in Doha in November, expressing his hope that this would contribute to establishing a model for cultural dialogue between the Qatari and American societies. 

“For the sake of these goals the State of Qatar continues to establish new channels of communication and open its national horizon for other cultures. We seek to develop regional and international partnerships, outside the boundaries of politics and diplomacy,” al-Attiyah said. 

HE al-Attiyah praised the US-Qatari relations, noting that the partnership, particularly in the education sector, was growing. In this regard, he pointed to the establishment of six prestigious American universities in Doha, which are receiving hundreds of Qatari students each year, while Qatar Foundation International supports educational and cultural initiatives across the Americas. 

He praised in this regard the support given by HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, and HH the Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani to all efforts aimed at improving the cultural pluralism of Arab-American partnership. 

On the occasion, the National Council presented its Distinguished Global Leadership Award to HE al-Attiyah in recognition of his long and illustrious service to the State of Qatar as well as his contributions to humanity.

 

 

Govt ‘protecting expat workers’ rights’

HE the Chairman of Qatar’s Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah has spelt out the government’s efforts to strengthening mechanisms for the protection of expatriate workers’ rights in Qatar.  

Addressing a seminar organised by the US-Qatar Business Council in Washington on Monday,  HE al-Attiyah reviewed the latest developments in the energy sector and the government’s efforts in the area of transparency and strengthening mechanisms for the protection of expatriate workers’ rights in the country. 

The seminar was attended by Qatar’s Ambassador to the United States Mohamed bin Jaham al-Kuwari.
