HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani recently visited the headquarters of Ashghal (Public Works Authority) in West Bay.

During the visit the Prime Minister was briefed by officials on a lot of ongoing and future infrastructure projects.

On his arrival HE Sheikh Abdulla was received by HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz al-Thani, the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP), senior engineer and President of Ashghal Nasser bin Ali al-Mawlawi, Deputy Under Secretary for Urban Planning Affairs at MMUP Fahd Mohamed al-Qahtani and a number of Ashghal affairs directors and departments managers.

At the meeting, the Prime Minister was briefed on the implementation of plans related to solving the issue of Al Karaana wastewater landfill. This includes building new pumping stations for sewage tankers near treatment plants and development of treatment plants to receive tankers.

As for Abu Nakhlah lake for treated water, the prime minister was briefed on the execution process of draining the lake and then rehabilitating the area environmentally, after studying the best suitable solutions.

The Prime Minister emphasised the need to expedite work to complete these projects on schedule. He was also briefed by officials on implementation plans for building new areas in Umm Birka and Aba Sleel for workers’ accommodation and storage units.

Sheikh Abdullah asked the officials to adopt effective solutions to complete works in these areas and develop roads there.

The meeting also featured deliberations on the infrastructure works in new areas.

The Prime Minister highlighted the need to urgently complete all infrastructure related activities in new areas that need to be handed over to the residents.

“This would allow people to build and occupy their houses on their completion,” he said.

Sheikh Abdullah also sought better co-ordination between all governmental agencies involved in the planning of new areas as it would help complete infrastructure related works at the earliest.

Ashghal’s President Nasser bin Ali al-Mawlawi recalled this was the Prime Minister’s second visit to the Ashghal headquarters this year. He thanked the Prime Minister and said he and other officials were happy with the interest being shown by the PM in the authority’s activities.

“We are also happy that the Prime Minister is closely monitoring the development of the ongoing infrastructure projects being implemented by Ashghal,” he said.

The visit also reflects the Prime Minister’s keenness to offer continuous support to Ashghal and all other related entities to execute infrastructure projects according to the specified standards and timelines, he said.
