The pre-disaster recovery planning workshop, organised by the Permanent Emergency Committee (PEC) in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction(UNISDR), will start today at the Officers’ Club in General Directorate of Civil Defence ( GDCD).

Representatives of PEC and other relevant sectors in the state will take part in the two-day workshop. The regional programme officers at the office of the UNISDR Luna Abu-Swaireh and Fadi Janan and other international experts will speak at the event.

The PEC held a national consultation session on Post-2015 Hyogo Framework for Action yesterday.The Director General of Public Security Staff Maj. Gen. Saad bin Jassim al-Khulaifi, who is also the chairman of PEC, attended the meeting. The results of the Second Arab Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction were reviewed at the session.

Luna Abu Swaireh, presented the results of the findings of the world countries in their national, regional and international meetings regarding the post-Hyogo Framework for Action 2015 to reduce the risk of disasters,. She indicated that it was agreed on a set of items  to be worked to take further action and precautions to reduce the risk of disasters.

Brig. Hamad Othman al-Duhaimi, the director of Operations Department of GDCD said that the workshop is aimed to strengthen the capacity of Qatar in planning for disaster recovery and to develop the best preparations to reduce risk of disasters.
