Speakers from the Ministry of Interior, Ashghal and other local and regional institutions and forums yesterday highlighted the necessity of installing high quality equipment along roads.

While delivering the keynote address Brigadier Mohamed A Al-Malki explained the initiatives the country had taken in recent years to reduce accidents and fatalities on roads.

While insisting that enforcement of stringent laws has helped Qatar reduce road accidents significantly, Brigadier Al-Malki said the government is on a continuous mission to decrease the number of road
accidents.

He said the authorities would not spare any efforts to improve the quality of driving on the country’s roads.

Brigadier Al-Malki explained that a series of public awareness campaigns were held at different levels highlighting the importance of the issue among different expatriate communities, the locals and also among the country’s schoolchildren.

“All this is being done to show government’s commitment to ensure that no life is lost on roads,” he said.

Brigadier Al-Malki is also in the National Committee for Traffic Safety in Qatar.

Yousef Abdulrahman Al-Emadi, director, road operations and maintenance at Ashghal, said those executing road projects were never allowed to make any compromises while works are carried out at different levels.

He said the work zone traffic management guide issued by Ashghal for the contractors has helped to reduce traffic accidents on worksites. “The guide has gone down well with the users, in particular those operating vehicles on worksites and others projects,” he said while announcing that the updated work zone traffic management guide would soon be issued to the contractors.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Interior, Ashghal, Hamad International Training Centre and other regional institutions, including Petroleum Development Oman and Aramco (Saudi Arabia) were awarded prizes for their contributions in reducing on road and worksite accidents and fatalities.

Brigadier Saad Mohamed al-Kharji, director, traffic at the Ministry of Interior, and other senior officials inspected the road traffic equipment displayed at the pavilions.
