Govt Eid holidays to start on July 27

Eid holidays for government offices, ministries and the public sector in Qatar will be from July 27 to August 4, the Emiri Diwan announced yesterday. Work will resume on August 5. Eid holidays for the Qatar Central Bank, banks, QCB-supervised financial institutions and Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA) will be three days. The QCB governor is to set the starting and ending dates of the Eid break, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) said yesterday.

Shop is closed for selling expired goods

A supermarket in Madinat Khalifa was closed down after large quantities of expired food materials were found there, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported. The violation came to light during an inspection by the Health Monitoring Section of the Doha Municipality. Meanwhile, the Health Monitoring Section of the Al Rayyan Municipality has carried out 912 inspections in which three food establishments have been closed, according to the report.  The inspection teams have destroyed foodstuff found unfit for human consumption.

Hundreds seeking obesity surgery

About 2,000 people   undergo bariatric surgery, the surgical procedure to reduce weight by limiting the intake of food, annually in Qatar, a senior Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) official revealed yesterday.
