Oryx GTL has organised a workshop on providing first aid to the sick and injured in an emergency.

During the training sessions, individuals were taught various first-aid measures and best practices to deal with emergency cases such as heart attacks, respiratory failure, burns, fractures, musculoskeletal injuries, medical emergencies, poisoning and heat related emergencies.

For more than two years, Oryx GTL has had zero fatalities and zero recordable injuries, inclusive of both contractors and employees. They continue to develop new mechanisms and systems to ensure the well-being of all staff and their families.

The inaugural Ladies’ First Aid workshop at a local hotel sought to build momentum generated by Oryx GTL’s highly effective ‘road to zero harm’ campaign which was launched by in 2010.

Oryx GTL’s PRC department co-ordinated the workshop in conjunction with the health and safety team with an aim to raise awareness about safety and health tips during emergency situations. In addition, first-aid kits were distributed to adults and mini first-aid kits to children (above 12years) who attended the workshop.

“First aid is essential in emergency cases. Knowing what action needs to be taken to control an emergency can make the difference between life and death. Emergencies occur all around us, someone may be injured at work, school or at home. When this happens, first aid basics will equip anyone around the injured person to reduce the danger posed by the accident,” she says.

One of the attendees commented: “This programme was very useful and thanks to Oryx GTL we are now able to save a life in case of an emergency by giving first aid.”
