With the closure of Al Wakrah’s main fuel source, the only other fuel station in Wakrah city, Al Saif fuel station, has become very congested, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.

Motorists who came to Al Saif complained that the closure of the main petrol station at Al Wakrah coincided with the start of the month of Ramadan.

Earlier, Arrayah had published complaints from motorists, who called for the establishment of new fuel stations in Wakrah city.

The newspaper said the authorities concerned are yet to respond to mounting requests.

Residents, who have dubbed the issue as “petrol crisis,” emphasised the need for “prompt solutions” and the opening of more fuel stations along the city’s entry and exit points.

Al Wakrah, which has an estimated population of 200,000, hosts one of the largest communities in the country with families relocating to new areas such as Al Jabal, New Wakrah, and other newly-built residential compounds.

With the increasing population, residents stressed that two fuel stations are not enough to meet the needs of motorists, the daily added.
